When I talked with my friends, a guy said
he would go to hot spring. He is a single man so that is looking forward to romantic
meeting with a young girl at mixed bathing. Yes there exists such spa in the local
area ! Senior man advised him be care as some of them are professional.
I was
thinking mixed bathing is unique Japanese culture for a long time. But I found
it was not true. When I visited to Baden-Baden where was famous for spa town in
Germany, there was mixed bathing. It was well known big spa Freidrichsbad.
People buy a ticket and enter man and woman separately. After visiting several
rooms for sauna and massage, they finally reach big pool sharing man and woman together with wearing nothing.
"The
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson was an exciting novel. How Swedish
woman Lisbeth was so enigmatic ! If she were in Japan, things must have been
different.
Tattoo is not a fashion but a symbol of Yakuza (Mafia). When I went
for a swim in the pool the other day, there was an announcement that people with tattoo are
not allowed and need swimming shirts. An ordinal people used to keep distance
from them in the public bath and pool. When I talked with my friend, he let
me know an interesting fact that tattoo is weak for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
He explained tattoo sparks in the MRI. It is just like a metal that sparks in
the kitchen oven. How terrible it is! Tattoo Yakuza is also a human being who
needs medical check as well. I wonder how they feel when they are in the serious health problem.
It has passed 74 years since Japan army occupied Singapore.
Soon after the Pearl Harbor, they invaded South Asia
and reached to Singapore in 1941. Lieutenant-General Arthur Percival of British Army
surrendered soon.
There are many WWII spot reserved there. Not only
pillbox vestige in the city, there is a war museum in Sentosa Island. It is originally an amusement park but they are keeping historical sights. It is interesting to see that next
room of wax doll Percival signed surrendered document in 1941, there is a room
that Lieutenant-General Yamashita signed also surrendered document in 1945.
In the center of the city, there is a monument which was found by Japanese
government for the memorial of civilian victims. It is said Yamashita killed
5000 Singapore civilians for spy suspicion. I don’t like to believe it. There
is also a Changi prison near it for the prisoner of Japanese army. Singapore looks very attractive
for the foreigner but they are still cautious for outsider as of today.
Today is a memorial day that atomic bomb
attacked Hiroshima in 1945. It was just 9 days before the surrender of Japan
army. More than 100 thousand civilians were killed in a moment. Terrible things
happened after that. It was black rain that the radioactive water escaped
their hearth.
When I was a child, I have been living in Hiroshima due to
father's work. It was 15 years after WWII. I shocked to see the human shadow which was remained at the
entrance of Hiroshima Peace Memorial. A man standing in front of the building
blocked the heat wave and left black shadow on the stone. People also rushed to
the river as they were thirsty throat. This Ota river streaming center of the
city reminds us that moment. Few months ago, I visited Kokura city where was
200km west of Hiroshima. It was an original target but B29 pilot
skipped due to cloudy weather so went to Hiroshima. It might be Kokura. I had mixed feeling and the
destiny of Hiroshima.
