Perry's expedition to Japan

I am reading " Narrative of the Expedition of an American Squadron to the China Seas and Japan " in Japanese. It is an interesting book that introduces the irritation of Edo shogunate who was given by foreign pressure.

Japan has closed a country for a long time over 240 years. Dutch was assigned for a sole agent during the time but Perry neglected it and opened the door. Matthew Perry was a commodore of US Navy and his expedition to Japan was made from 1852 to 1854.

I am interested in getting touch that Perry researched Japan history correctly prior to his visit and prepared peaceful negotiation with Edo shogunate. His travel sketch was so precise and fresh. I can’t hesitate to impress that he was sketching Japan's coast saying so beautiful with ordered green field.  His black ship penetrated into Edo bay in such time.
