I had a grandmother who passed away 30 years ago. She took care of me very much when I was a child as I was her first grandchild. I also liked her as she was so kind. She was a typical Meiji era woman always wearing a traditional kimono, practicing classic Japanese song with playing samisen.
One day when I dropped into the antique shop at Karuizawa, I found herself in the painting by accident. I soon bought it without any hesitation. It was a watercolors that an old woman was walking on the soil road. There was a beautiful contrast between the earthen wall and shade.
Whenever I see this painting, it reminds me of her.
